What to write in the Explanation tab

A coding problem can have an Explanation tab next to your code, with its weight on the tab, for example Explanation 30%. Faculty set the split between code and explanation for each test. It starts at 30% explanation.

What the marker looks for

  • Four rubric dimensions: clarity, technical accuracy, depth and completeness.
  • Why the approach works and what trade-offs you made, not a line-by-line restatement of the code.
  • Your own words: what you decided and why, not a recap the marker could get from the code itself.

If a problem shows no Explanation tab, nothing is asked or marked for it.
